A little break from Philosufizing today, to ask that if at all possible, you find a way to make a contribution to flood relief for Pakistan, where over 12 million people are affected by the worst flooding in 80 years, and over 1,600 have already been killed.
According to one news source, the floods are already worse than the 2005 earthquake and monsoon season is only half over. Another story, also from the Christian Science Monitor, reveals that the situation has exacerbated the usual inequities: Pakistan floods strand the poor while rich go to higher ground.
The country desperately needs international aid. We've made a donation to the International Development and Relief Fund, a Muslim Canadian charity, but we thought we'd try to do a little bit more to encourage aid, so...
All the profits from every T-shirt sold today will go to flood relief for Pakistan.
Put a shirt on your back and we'll help put shirts on someone else's. (Uh, not our T-shirts. Just regular shirts, you know?)
If you prefer to make a cash donation, here are some of the many agencies that are helping in the region:
Canada:
International Development and Relief Foundation
US:
UK:
Pakistan:
Please help if you possibly can -- even small amounts count. And if you'd like to use the comments section to mention aid agencies for other countries, please do.
